Women’s contributions to the First World War are not well known due to the intense push for women’s suffrage. To understand the role the United States played in WWI, one has to examine all facets, including contributions of women. Historian Vivian Davis speaks about the role of local women, focusing on the women’s paramilitary venture, Camp Hewitt, and discusses how their contributions paved the way to women’s victory at the polls and beyond.
Vivian Davis, Education Coordinator at The Bronx County Historical Society, has a museum career that includes the National Park Service in Manhattan and Van Cortlandt House Museum in The Bronx. She has a BA in American Studies and MA in American History and can be reached at email@example.com.
