Green Hill Signs Garden State Equality Pledge Protecting Elders from Housing Discrimination

Green Hill Inc. announces the signing of the Garden State Equality Pledge and Protect Sign-On, to affirm their support to protect LGBT older adults from discrimination in housing and healthcare. Green Hill agrees that seniors have a right to use the facilities that match their gender identity and expression.

Green Hill Inc. is a LBGT welcoming community with SAGECare Platinum certification and Innovator Status, for completing a comprehensive provider training program for LGBT older adults and their caregivers, and cultural competency training on subjects related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Green Hill is the only residential senior care provider in the NYC metro area certified with SAGECare Platinum Status. Having completed the SAGECare training, Green Hill is incorporating the healthcare, emotional and cultural services and programs necessary to engage and serve the elder LGBT community and their families at every level of Green Hill living, Independent Catered, Assisted, Skilled Nursing, Rehabilitative, Palliative and Memory, Respite and Home care, and in the Green House® Homes.

The Equal Rights Center performed housing tests on long-term care facilities in New Jersey and turned up multiple instance of discriminatory treatment,” said Garden State Equality. The Pledge to Protect Sign-On includes additional area of protections for LGBT elders including those listed in the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination and applicable state, local and federal nondiscrimination laws.

Garden State Equality is New Jersey’s statewide civil rights organization for the LGBT community. SAGE USA is a not-for-profit organization that has been addressing the needs of LGBT elders for over thirty years, and provides services and advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Elders.
